Pre Engineered Buildings- The Upcoming Future Of Construction.
Construction is an endless process, what about the future of construction? Experts say Pre-engineered steel buildings are the upcoming future of construction.
The technological improvement over the year has contributed immensely to the enhancement of quality of life through various new products and services. One such revolution was the pre-engineered steel buildings. Though its origin is often traced back to the 1960s, its potential has been felt only during recent years.
An estimated 70% of all new commercial buildings all over the world are pre-engineered! There is really no dispute within the incontrovertible fact that pre-engineered building systems are the new wave in construction.
What are Pre-engineered Steel buildings?
Pre-engineered steel buildings are those which are fully fabricated within the factory after designing, shipped to site in CKD(completely knocked down) condition; and every one component is assembled and erected at site with nut-bolts, thereby reducing the time of completion.
When it comes to definition, we can say that-
It is any a part of a structure that’s manufactured before its arrival on the vacant lot. The concept of the pre-engineered building or steel structural building is one where the fabrication is completed during a controlled environment with the newest technology, then subsequent erection is administered.
The designs were ready-made but the building components were either ready-made or manufactured against specific orders. These buildings were pre-designed or ‘pre-engineered’ into standard sizes, spans, bays, and heights. The use of standard details for fixing cladding, roofing, gutters, flashing, windows, doors, etc takes advantage of industrial practices of mass production of components economically.
There are two types of pre-engineered buildings – Primary and Secondary PEB. Know more here.
Although PEB systems are extensively utilized in industrial and lots of other nonresidential constructions worldwide, it’s relatively a replacement concept in India. These concepts were introduced to the Indian markets within the late 1990s with the opening from the economy; and a variety of multinationals fixing their projects.
A healthy trend within the sort of growth in demand for construction works in residential, Commercial, Institutional industrial and infrastructure sectors are being seen over the past decade. Modern Structures are much more complex and sophisticated as compared to the earlier periods.
One of the main changes which are being felt by all is that these structures are taller and thinner. The modern-day requirement of structures is that these should be lighter yet not compromising on functionality. Civil engineering construction has seen a continuing economic competition between steel, concrete, and other construction materials.
The Concept: Superiority of PEB over Conventional Construction
Pre-engineered steel buildings use a mixture of built-up sections, hot rolled sections, and cold-formed elements that give the essential steel framework with a choice of single skin sheeting with added insulation or insulated sandwich panels for roofing and wall cladding.
The concept is meant to supply an entire building envelope system which is airtight, energy-efficient, optimum in weight and price and, above all, designed to suit user requirements like a well-fitted glove.
These Pre-engineered Steel Buildings are often fitted with different structural accessories including mezzanine floors, canopies, fascias, interior partitions, crane systems, etc. The building is formed water-tight by use of special mastic beads, filler strips, and trims. This is a really versatile building system and may be finished internally to serve any required function and accessorized externally to realize attractive and distinctive architectural styles. It is best suited for any low-rise building and offers numerous benefits over conventional buildings.
